A Beautiful Day to Remember: The Wedding of Florida and Henk
Florida and Henk’s wedding was nothing short of magical, filled with beautiful moments, laughter, and emotional surprises. As a wedding photographer in Amersfoort, I feel honored to have captured this special day from start to finish. From the intimate preparation moments to the grand celebration, every part of their wedding was filled with love and joy. Let me take you through the story of their big day.
Getting Ready: Henk’s Morning in Lunteren
The day began with Henk getting ready at his parents’ home in Lunteren. The house was bustling with excitement as the groom prepared for his journey ahead. For the photos, I chose the patio outside. The natural light streaming in combined with the warm, earthy tones of the background created a perfect setting for these shots.
Once ready, Henk hopped into gorgeous vintage white Volkswagen Karmann Ghia—a real showstopper! This classic car set the tone for the day and added a touch of timeless elegance. With everything packed and ready, Henk started his journey to Amersfoort, where the next chapter of the day awaited.
Florida’s Preparation in Amersfoort
Meanwhile, I was already en route to Amersfoort to capture Florida’s preparations. Florida was getting ready with her family, surrounded by love and excitement. Her hair and makeup were beautifully done by E-line Hairfashion, a true professional who created a soft and elegant look for the bride.
The moment had arrived to slip into her breathtaking wedding dress from Brides by Fem. The dress was a masterpiece, with intricate lace detailing and a graceful silhouette. As she stepped into it, the room seemed to light up with anticipation.
After the final touches, it was time for the first look. The Dutch tradition of the groom ringing the doorbell added a special touch to this moment. Henk arrived to find the doorway decorated with a stunning arch of lights and flowers, lovingly arranged by their families. When Florida opened the door, there was no hiding Henk’s emotion—though he might insist there wasn’t a tear, let’s just say his eyes weren’t as dry as he claimed!
A Scenic Photo Session at Monnikenbos
Once the first look was over, we squeezed ourselves into the wedding car, and let me tell you, fitting myself into the backseat with all my camera gear was no easy feat—it felt like playing Tetris! Florida and Henk had chosen Monnikenbos for their couple photos, a serene natural location on the western side of Amersfoort.
Monnikenbos offered a variety of picturesque backdrops, from lush green forests to vibrant rhododendron blooms and even a minimalist birch tree grove. This peaceful spot allowed us to capture both romantic and playful moments, showcasing the couple’s love and personality.
A Romantic Ceremony at Hofje De Armen de Poth
From Monnikenbos, we headed back to Amersfoort for the wedding ceremony at the charming chapel of Hofje De Armen de Poth. Families and friends had already gathered, filling the intimate space with warmth and anticipation.
Henk entered first, accompanied by his mother, followed by Florida, who walked in with her father. The white walls of the chapel created a bright, inviting atmosphere, perfect for capturing every heartfelt moment. The ceremony included an exchange of rings, their first kiss as a married couple, and a beautiful personal touch—Florida and Henk ringing the church bells together as the ceremony concluded.
After the ceremony, the celebrations moved outside and into the grounds of Hofje De Armen de Poth. Guests enjoyed a relaxed lunch, mingling both indoors and outdoors. The speeches were filled with humor, heartfelt stories, and love, leaving no dry eyes (though the laughter probably helped balance it out!).
The Grand Church Ceremony at Sint-Joriskerk
Next, we transitioned to Sint-Joriskerk, the largest church in Amersfoort, for a more formal ceremony. Here, more friends and extended family joined the celebration.
One of the highlights was Henk’s sister playing a horn instrument during the service—a performance that added a personal and emotional touch to the occasion. Following the ceremony, everyone gathered inside the church for a reception filled with smiles, hugs, and laughter.
A Photoshoot in Amersfoort’s Iconic Streets
While guests made their way to the dinner and party location, Florida, Henk, and I snuck away for a quick photoshoot in the beautiful streets of Amersfoort.
We spent about 30 minutes exploring Muurhuizen, Havic, and Koppelpoort, capturing some truly breathtaking shots. These historic streets provided a perfect mix of charm and character, enhancing the timeless feel of their wedding day.
Dinner and Party at De Observant
The final destination of the day was De Observant, a venue located near the town hall of Amersfoort. Guests were welcomed with a delicious buffet dinner, filled with a variety of dishes.
Speeches from friends and family brought laughter and tears as everyone shared their love and well-wishes for the couple. Later, an ice cream carriage delighted the guests, offering a sweet treat before the evening’s festivities kicked off.
The night ended with a lively party, where a DJ had everyone dancing and celebrating together. Florida and Henk’s first dance as a married couple was a highlight, as they swayed together surrounded by their loved ones.
