April wedding at Buitenplaats Sparrendaal: Nancy & Michiel’s special Day
On April 19, 2024, I had the absolute honor of capturing Nancy and Michiel's wedding at Buitenplaats Sparrendaal, a stunning historic venue in Driebergen-Rijsenburg. From the emotional first look to the lively evening party, their day was filled with love, joy, and unforgettable moments. Here’s a glimpse into their extraordinary day.
Getting ready: Capturing the details
The morning began with a calm yet excited energy. I first used time in the bright and elegant lounge room of Buitenplaats Sparrendaal, where the natural light gave a perfect enviroment to capture their accessories before turning my lens to Michiel and his dad as they prepared for the day. Michiel’s navy blue suit was a perfect match for the handsome groom, exuding timeless elegance.
Upstairs, in the Heeren Kamer, Nancy was surrounded by her closest family and friends as she got ready. This room, with its classic charm, was the perfect backdrop for her preparations. Nancy looked absolutely radiant, her beauty further enhanced by her hair, styled flawlessly by Kapsalon de Meer from Amsterdam. It was easy to see how much love and excitement filled the room—she was truly the star of the show.
The first look: A bridge to forever
One of my favorite moments at weddings is the first look, and Nancy and Michiel’s did not disappoint. This emotional exchange took place outside on the picturesque bridge in front of Buitenplaats Sparrendaal, a building with nearly 300 years of history. Their nervous excitement was tangible, and their reactions to seeing each other for the first time were filled with love.
Unfortunately, the weather decided to intervene. When the rain started, we moved inside to the elegant Gouden Kamer. Here, the couple shared quiet moments in front of the window’s natural light. They even practiced their first dance, allowing me to snap intimate and heartfelt shots of them together.
The ceremony: A warm and personal touch
The ceremony took place in the Grote Salon, a grand room perfectly prepared for the occasion. Before the guests entered, I captured the space in its pristine beauty, a blank canvas about to hold such an important chapter of their story. Michiel was the first to enter, followed by Nancy, who walked in arm-in-arm with her father. It was a touching sight, one that brought smiles and tears to everyone in the room.
The ceremony itself was uniquely special, officiated by a close friend of the couple. This personal touch added warmth and intimacy to the exchange of vows, the ring ceremony, and their first kiss as husband and wife.
A sweet moment: The wedding cake
After the ceremony, it was time for the cutting of the cake, lovingly crafted by De Drie Graefjes, an Amsterdam-based bakery. White cake with elegant decorations combined with its delicious taste was a perfect choice. The couple shared laughs and smiles as their guests raised their glasses in a celebratory toast, creating more joyful memories.
A rainy window for wedding photos
Though the weather wasn’t entirely cooperative, we made the most of a brief dry spell to head outside for group pictures. It wasn’t long before the rain returned, but in those few minutes, we captured magical moments, including one of my favorite shots of the day: Michiel holding his jacket over Nancy as raindrops began to fall. These moments, so spontaneous and real, are impossible to replicate and always leave a lasting impression.
Dinner at the Raadzaal
Dinner was served in the Raadzaal, a room that combined elegance and coziness, creating the perfect atmosphere for the evening meal. The culinary experience began with a curry-coconut-pumpkin mousse, followed by a refreshing quinoa dish with cucumber, wasabi, and radish. The main course featured celeriac with green asparagus, carrots, and curry madras, and dessert was a heavenly tartlet with vanilla, pistachios, and forest fruits. The meal was accompanied by heartfelt yet brief speeches, allowing everyone to enjoy the relaxed and intimate ambiance.
The party: Dancing the night away
As evening guests arrived, everyone gathered in the Grote Salon for Nancy and Michiel’s grand entrance. Their first dance was nothing short of spectacular—a moment that marked the start of an unforgettable celebration. The energy from their dance spilled into the rest of the evening as the guests filled the dance floor, celebrating with the couple until midnight.
A heartfelt Thank You
Nancy and Michiel, thank you for allowing me to be part of your wedding day at Buitenplaats Sparrendaal. It was an honor to capture these moments for you—a day filled with laughter, emotion, and love.
