International wedding in the Netherlands – Photos by Ville

Whether you're living in the Netherlands or planning your wedding here from abroad, you’re probably dreaming of a day that feels real, relaxed, and full of meaning. And afterward, you want more than just beautiful images — you want photos that bring you right back to how everything felt.

As an expat couple, you’re not just planning a wedding — you’re bringing together different backgrounds, maybe different languages, and shaping something uniquely yours. That’s why it’s important to have a photographer who not only knows the flow of a Dutch wedding day, but also understands what it’s like to celebrate your love away from home. When my wife and I got married in Mallorca while living in the Netherlands, I experienced first-hand how important it is to feel supported and understood.

You don’t need to perform or pose — and you definitely don’t need to worry about the camera all day. I’ll guide you gently where needed, but mostly I work quietly in the background, capturing real moments as they unfold. The result? Photos that feel natural, emotional, and completely true to you.

A wedding in the Netherlands — because you want it to become part of your story

Maybe the Netherlands is where you met, where your relationship grew, or simply where it started to feel like home. Or maybe you’re simply drawn to its charm — the old city streets, the quiet canals, the gardens and estates that make for beautiful, relaxed celebrations.

Getting married in the Netherlands as an expat often comes with a mix of excitement and uncertainty. Maybe you're planning everything from another country, or you're living here but still finding your way with the language and local traditions. Maybe you're bringing together two cultures, two families, and trying to make it all feel natural and true to you.

That’s why it helps to have a photographer who not only knows how Dutch weddings unfold, but also understands what it’s like to get married abroad — someone who brings calm, clarity, and personal attention along the way.

Things you might be wondering right now

...You’re excited about your wedding, but unsure how to find the right people to trust

...You want genuine, emotional photos that feel like you — not posed or staged

...You're a bit unsure how things work here, and hoping for someone who makes it feel easier

...You’d love to just enjoy the day without worrying about being photographed

...You’re looking for someone down-to-earth, professional, and easy to talk to — someone who understands what you’re going through

What matters most to you

You're not just looking for a photographer — you want someone who understands what this day means to you and treats it with care.

  • You want to feel relaxed and present, knowing that the meaningful moments are being captured with care

  • You prefer a natural style — soft, real, and never forced

  • You’re hoping for clear, personal communication, especially if you’re planning everything from a distance

  • You want to look back and remember not just how everything looked, but how it all felt

  • And most of all, you want photos that reflect you — not something generic or overly posed

Natural photography with attention

What couples say

How I work — simple, flexible, and built for distance

Whether you're living in the Netherlands or planning everything from abroad, my approach is designed to make the photography part of your wedding feel calm, personal, and easy — from the first call to delivering your wedding album.

Before the wedding

  • We start with a relaxed video call to get to know each other
  • I’ll explain how I work, hear all about your plans, and answer any questions
  • Once you decide to move forward, I’ll reserve your date and send over the contract
  • Closer to the wedding, we’ll plan a short call to go over the timeline and anything you'd like me to focus on

On your wedding day

  • I blend in with the flow of the day, capturing what matters without distraction
  • I won’t stage or interrupt anything — and during couple photos, I’ll offer gentle guidance only when it feels helpful
  • I focus on real connection, emotion, and the atmosphere that makes your wedding yours

After the wedding

  • Within 4 days: a small preview so you can relive the first moments
  • Within 4 weeks: your full gallery, edited with attention to detail and delivered in your private online gallery
  • You choose your favourite images for the album, and I’ll design the first layout
  • We’ll shape the album together until it feels like you, beautifully told

If you’re nodding along, we’ll probably get along

Here’s what I often hear from couples during our first call::

If you recognise yourself in any of this, we’ll likely be a good fit. Whether you live in the Netherlands or are travelling here just for your wedding, I’ll be there with a calm presence, a personal approach, and an eye for everything that makes the day feel like yours.

About me — a calm approach with an international mindset

I’m Ville — a Finnish wedding photographer living in the Netherlands with my wife Margot. I moved here a few years ago after we met at a yoga retreat in Portugal, so I know what it’s like to start a new chapter in a new country.

Being an expat myself helps me understand how important it is to feel supported — especially when you’re planning your wedding from abroad.

We celebrated our own wedding in Mallorca, so I also know what it’s like to plan a wedding away from home. Maybe that’s also why I connect so naturally with international couples — because I’ve been there too.

Over the years, I’ve photographed weddings across the Netherlands and Mallorca for both local and international couples — always with the same calm, intuitive approach. I blend in quietly, pick up on the moments that matter, and create photos that reflect the feeling, the people, and the story of the day.

Wedding album – your wedding day, preserved in print

Your wedding gallery is something you’ll revisit again and again — but there’s nothing quite like holding your story in your hands.

Every package includes a luxury wedding album, designed with care and fully tailored to your day. You choose your favourite images, I create the first layout, and together we shape it into something that feels personal and lasting.

The album is printed on high-quality materials, with your choice of size, cover and colour — something that will still feel timeless years from now.

A beautiful way to relive your wedding day, and to share it with the people who matter most.

Add-on: Wedding video

Photos capture so much — but sometimes a few moving moments add just that little bit extra.

This short 2–3 minute highlight film is made from natural video clips captured throughout your day. It’s edited to a song you love and shows the atmosphere, movement, and emotion in a way that complements your photo story.

No posing, no acting — just the feeling of the day, as it really was.

Available with any wedding package for €250.

Wedding video add-on

And the video? It brings us to tears every time.

Add-on: Loveshoot

A loveshoot is a relaxed photo session for the two of you — no pressure, no posing, just a chance to be yourselves and enjoy a quiet moment together before the big day.

Many couples tell me it helps take the nerves away. You get to feel how it is to be in front of the camera — and on the wedding day, everything feels that much more natural.

If you're living in the Netherlands, we can plan it somewhere that fits you. If you're travelling in for the wedding, we can do it during your visit — either a few days before or even the evening before, depending on what works.

Together with a wedding package: €197 (up to 2 hours). If you want to do a loveshoot without booking a wedding package, the cost is €347.

Loveshoot or pre-wedding session

The love shoot prior to the wedding gave us a good idea of what to expect on our big day. This took away some of the tension and made us feel at ease.

What you’ll take with you

Your wedding day flies by — full of emotion, people, and fleeting moments.

That’s why the photos matter so much. Not just to show how it looked, but to let you feel what it was like — together, in that moment.

Here’s what you’ll walk away with:

  • A calm, personal experience from start to finish

  • Photos that feel natural, emotional, and completely you

  • A photographer who quietly picks up on the small things — the looks, the energy, the in-betweens

  • No pressure, no awkward posing — just real moments as they happen

  • Editing that keeps the colours, mood, and softness of the day

  • A beautiful printed album you’ll want to open again and again

And the peace of mind knowing that it’s all been captured with care — just the way it should be.

Ville was our photographer at our wedding and exceeded all our expectations.

A calm wedding experience

Book your intro call — wherever you are

You spend a lot of your day with your photographer — so it’s important that it clicks, not just in the photos, but in how it feels.

That’s why I always start with a relaxed, no-pressure intro call. We can chat about your plans, go through any questions you have, and simply see if we’re a good match.

Wherever you’re currently living — here in the Netherlands or somewhere further away — we’ll meet online, easy and flexible.

I’d love to hear your story.

Wedding photography - FAQ

Booking & Payment

To be sure I’m available for your date, I recommend booking 6 to 12 months in advance. Reach out as soon as you have a date in mind — no pressure, just a friendly chat to get started.

You can get in touch via my website, Instagram, or email. Once we’ve connected and everything feels like a good fit, I’ll send over a booking agreement and ask for a deposit to secure your date.

Yes — a €150 deposit locks in your date. The rest is paid after the wedding, once you receive your final invoice.

If you cancel more than 45 days before the wedding, the deposit is refunded. Closer to the date, cancellation fees may apply. If something comes up and you need to move the date, I’ll always do my best to accommodate — and if it’s within 45 days, a small extra fee may apply depending on the case.

Yes, travel within the Netherlands is included in my “Complete” package. For other packages, I include up to 100 km from Amersfoort, and charge €0.30/km beyond that. For weddings in Mallorca, travel is fully included.

My Approach & Working Style

I typically arrive about 30–60 minutes before the final touches of getting ready, and stay 30–60 minutes into the dancing. That way, I can capture the full flow of your day without missing the important moments.

Absolutely. Once you’ve booked, we’ll set up a video call (or grab a coffee) to talk through your plans and what matters most to you. I’m also always just a message away if you have questions along the way.

I focus on capturing your day naturally and calmly, without constant direction. My goal is to document all the big emotions and small in-between moments so you can relive the feeling and energy of the day.

Editorial and emotional — timeless images that feel real. I aim for a natural, relaxed atmosphere with genuine connection and movement. No stiff posing, just you being you.

If you have a few must-haves, I’d love to know! But I recommend keeping it simple — the most powerful photos often come from the unscripted moments.

Editing & Delivery

You’ll receive all the best photos from the day — carefully selected and edited in my signature style. For a full-day wedding, this usually means around 700 to 900 images. I go through every photo to ensure the collection truly reflects your day, with natural tones and thoughtful editing.

All photos are delivered in colour. If you’d like, I can also provide around 40 to 50 photos in black & white to add an emotional and timeless touch to your gallery.

You’ll receive a sneak peek within 4 days, and the full gallery within about 4 weeks. Summer and autumn are busier periods, so it can take a bit longer — but I’ll always keep you in the loop.

Small retouching is sometimes possible. Let me know before the wedding if there’s anything specific you’d like adjusted. For more detailed Photoshop work, I’ll give you a custom quote based on what’s needed.

You’ll receive a personal link to a private online gallery, where you can view, download, and share your wedding photos with family and friends.

Wedding Albums

Once you've received your photos, you can choose your favourites and we’ll decide on the album style and size together. I’ll then create the design and share it with you — and we’ll adjust the layout as needed until it really feels right for you. Once you're happy, I’ll place the order.

Yes! You can choose from linen, velvet, or leather covers in a range of colours. You can even personalize the cover with your names in laser-etching or embossing. For paper, I offer Lustre, Matte, Glossy, or the luxurious Pearl Metallic as an upgrade.

The standard album includes 30 spreads. If you'd like more, extra pages can be added for an additional cost.

You can choose between 25 x 25 cm, 25 x 30 cm, or 30 x 30 cm.

No problem! If you prefer not to include an album in your package, you’ll receive a €100 discount.
That said, I highly recommend having an album — there’s something special about holding your wedding story in your hands. It’s a beautiful keepsake you’ll return to again and again.

Other Questions

Yes! While my main focus is photography, I offer a short wedding day highlight film for €250 — edited with music of your choice. A simple way to capture even more of the feeling of the day.

For weddings with over 100 guests or multiple locations, a second photographer can be a great idea. Let me know your plans and I’ll recommend what works best.

I prefer using natural light wherever possible — it gives a softer and more authentic look. But I always bring a flash just in case it’s needed for darker settings or evening dance floors.

English, Spanish, Finnish — and I’m learning Dutch! So whether you’re local, international, or somewhere in between, we’ll understand each other just fine.

Absolutely! Just tag @photos.byville when you do. I put a lot of care into each photo, so I kindly ask you to keep them unfiltered so the colours and vibe stay just as intended.
